Welcome
Thank you for your help in creating schools that have a greater understanding of attachment and its issues. The award is now closed to new applicants so that we can update the criterion, if you have any suggestions for improvements please forward them using the comments section of the website or social media.
All children deserve the best start in life so that they can reach their full potential. In March 2014, 68,840 children were in the care of the local authority only 6% were under 1 year old. In September of the same year 8,290 children were awaiting adoption only 4% were under the age of 1*. All these children have already had a difficult start to life, one which many of us cannot comprehend, and the majority of these children are in statutory education. If we, as educators, are not supporting them and their parents we can compound the difficulties the children can face both in school and at home as they become part of a loving, caring and therapeutic family.

Teachers: What can we do?
Thank you for your interest in the Attachment Friendly Schools Award. We are no longer taking enquiries for this. The adoption support organisation PAC-UK has an Adoption Friendly Schools charter, guide and toolkit for schools to work through in order to demonstrate their commitment to being an 'adoption friendly school'. Further details of this can be found on their website from September 2016: http://www.pac-uk.org/education/ This site was to fill a gap and this past year has shown that the recognition for schools was appreciated by schools and parents. As a therapeutic parent and teacher time has always been an issue when running this site and the recognition. PAC-UK, who are nationally recognised, are much better placed to offer support and encouragement to schools and parents. Although the the charter is specific to adoption, it is my belief that if we are friendly towards adoption issues then we are also attachment friendly. I will keep this site open as a link to trainers across the country and I will update the resources page as regularly as I am able and would appreciate any links or documents that you find helpful and that may benefit others. Parents: What can we do? Share this site with your child's school and support them as best you can. |
